Approach

The shadow of a hand and forearm cast across a plastered adobe wall in raking afternoon light

01 / Notice

Name it plainly

The first session is description, not advice. What is actually happening, in ordinary words, with no diagnosis attached to it.

The exposed root system of a desert shrub in a cut bank of dry earth

02 / Trace

Find the pattern

We work backwards from the thing you noticed to the structure producing it: how the week is built, what you have agreed to, what you stopped questioning.

A weathered timber beam bearing on a rough stone footing, shadow pooling under the joint

03 / Hold

Change one thing

Then one change, small enough to survive a bad month, and enough sessions to find out whether it held.

Two plain wooden chairs at an angle to each other in an empty plastered room

One-to-one advisory

A block of six sessions, sixty minutes each, two weeks apart. Between them you get written notes: what we said, what you are trying, what to watch. Online, or in person in Albuquerque.

6 sessions / 60 min / English or Spanish

A short stack of closed, unmarked notebooks on a bare wooden table

The twelve-week pattern programme

Longer work, for something that has been in place for years. Four weeks describing, four weeks changing one thing, four weeks finding out whether it held.

12 weeks / 8 sessions / notes between each

A long bare wooden table with a band of afternoon light across it

Team workshops

Half a day with eight to twenty people on workload, recovery and attention. At your office or online. No role play, no trust exercises.

Half day / 8 to 20 people / on site or online

An open doorway seen from a dim room, giving onto a sunlit courtyard

Transitions

Support through a change already underway: a new role, a move, a household that has just reorganised itself around someone else.

3 sessions / 60 min / across six weeks

A window with a linen blind half drawn, light falling on the deep plaster sill

Follow-through

After a programme ends, one session a month for as long as it stays useful. Same person, no starting over, no re-explaining.

1 session a month / 60 min / stop whenever

Prices depend on the format and the length. Ask and you get a figure in the reply, not a form.

About

Javier Santiago del Río

Founder, Ben Biao Patterns LLC

I work with people on the structure of their week, not on their feelings about it. Sessions are conversations with notes: you describe what is happening, we find what keeps producing it, and you change one thing at a time. I work in English and in Spanish, online and in Albuquerque. I am not a doctor, a therapist or a nutritionist, and the scope note below says so in more detail.

Practice

What a session is

Sixty minutes, by video or in person, with nothing to fill in beforehand. You talk, I ask, we write down two or three things. Afterwards you get a short written summary: what you said, what you decided, what to look at before next time. Sessions are never recorded.

Scope

What this is not

This is not medical care, psychotherapy, counselling or nutrition advice, and nothing here diagnoses or treats a condition. If what you describe belongs with a clinician, I will say so in the first session and stop.

Read the full scope note

No. Therapy treats a condition; this does not. We work on how your week is built and what it is doing to you. If what you describe belongs with a therapist or a doctor, I will tell you in the first session.

Why this practice

Two working languages

Sessions, written notes and correspondence in English or Spanish, and you can change your mind. The Spanish on this site was written for it, not run through a machine.

Written after every session

You leave with a short summary in writing: what you said, what you decided, what to watch. You are not relying on your memory of a conversation you had while tired.

A stated boundary

The scope note on this site says in plain language what this practice does not do, and when you will be referred elsewhere. It is not buried in the small print.

No subscription

Work is sold as a block of sessions with an end date. There is no rolling charge, no membership, and nothing to remember to cancel.

Say what is happening and what you have already tried. Javier reads and answers these himself.
